Four deaths, 116 fresh Covid-19 cases in state

LUDHIANA/AMRITSAR/SANGRUR/ BATHINDA/MOGA:Punjab on Thursday reported four deaths and 116 fresh cases, taking the state’s Covid-19 count to 5,784. The death toll in the state due to the virus has reached 153, according to field reports received till 10pm.

A resident of Amritsar and Gurdaspur each died of Covid-19 at Amritsar hospitals on Thursday, health officials said. “A 71-year-old woman from Ganda Singh Colony at Tarn Taran road, died at Sri Guru Ram Dass Charitable Hospital,” said civil surgeon Dr Navdeep Singh.

Also, a Covid-19 positive patient of Panj Graian village, located in Batala area of Gurdaspur district, died at Government Medical College and Hospital, Amritsar.

mritsar district also reported five fresh cases of which three are community transmissi­on cases and two are close contacts of the Covid-19 patients. Besides, five fresh cases have been reported from Gurdaspur district and four from Tarn Taran.

A 60-year-old woman died, while 36 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Ludhiana.

Sangrur reported three fresh cases. The patients belong to Malerkotla, Longowal and Kauhrian blocks of the district.

Six people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kapurthala on Thursday.

The patients are in the age group of 12 and 50 years. Six persons, including three women, tested positive for Covid-19 in Muktsar.

Besides, six persons contracted the infection in Moga and Faridkot.

Nineteen persons tested positive for the novel coronaviru­s in

Jalandhar on Thursday. Health officials said that four internatio­nal and two domestic travellers, eight contacts of positive persons and five fresh people, tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old Bathinda resident, who died on Wednesday, tested positive for coronaviru­s on Thursday.
