J&K records 10 deaths, Covid-19 count rises to 154

SRINAGAR : The UT recorded 10 deaths, the highest number of fatalities recorded in a day, on Thursday, taking the death toll to 115. As many as 154 cases were reported from different parts of J&K.

Four deaths were reported from Sher- i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, three at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital and one at the Chest Disease Hospital. Srinagar has reported 27 deaths. Baramulla reported 18, Kulgam 16, Shopian 13, Anantnag nine, Budgam eight, Jammu eight, Kupwara six, Pulwama four and one death each has been reported from Poonch, Udhampur, Bandipora, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri districts of UT.

SPIKE IN FATALITIES

There has been a spike in Covidrelat­ed fatalities over the last few days. Though doctors say most patients had comorbidit­ies, the patients could not recover despite being provided high-flow oxygen. SKIMS medical superinten­dent Dr Farooq Jan said one death was reported on Wednesday evening and three Covid-19 patients died on Thursday. “They all had other ailments and were on high-flow oxygen.” Jan said that doctors at the SKIMS were making all efforts to save the lives of patients.

On Thursday, 2,569 samples were tested at SKIMS, of which 65 were found positive including eight jawans from the Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF.

NC GENERAL SECY TESTS POSITIVE

National Conference general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, who was recently released after eight months of detention, has tested positive along with three other family members.

“It is requested to all my friends and well wishers to pray for my family as 4 of our family members tested positive for COVID’19 today including my father. Do remember in prayers & May allah keep all of us under his protection,” tweeted Ali Mohammad Sagar’s son Salman Sagar.

As many as 51 cases were reported in Srinagar. Around 118 patients recovered and were discharged from different hospitals, taking the number of recovered patients to 4,974.
