109 new cases take HP’s tally to 1,834

SHIMLA:: With the second steepest single-day spike of 109 cases within a week, Himachal’s Covid-tally crossed the 1,800- mark on Thursday.

As many as 43 people have tested positive in Solan, 42 in Sirmaur, 11 in Kangra, seven in Mandi and two each in Chamba and Hamirpur and one each in Shimla and Bilaspur. The state had recorded the steepest singleday spike on Tuesday when 110 cases were reported in the state.

Sirmaur deputy commission­er Raj Krishan Purthi said 20 cases were reported in Govindgarh locality of Nahan town. Among the patients are eight men and 12 women. Around 100 people tested positive in the locality within a week. In Paonta Sahib, five workers of a steel factory tested positive.

SOLAN COUNT JUMPS TO 434

With 43 new cases, the Solan tally has jumped to 434. Among the patients, 23 are primary contacts of a Covid-19 patient. They are from Haripur area. Three army personnel and one paramilita­ry jawan were among the 12 people to test positive in Kangra district, said Kangra deputy commission­er Rakesh Kumar Prajapati. Two foreign returnees and one government employee on duty at an intuitiona­l quarantine facility have also tested positive.

In Chamba, a Meghalaya-returned man has tested positive in Dalhousie. A labourer from Bihar has been tested positive in Kihar area. Special secretary for health Nipun Jindal said the active cases in the state have gone up to 671 while 1,136 people have recovered. Ten people have died of the contagion.
