22 deaths, 1,683 fresh Covid-19 cases in state

LUDHIANA/AMRITSAR/PATIALA/ BATHINDA/JALANDHAR: Punjab on Wednesday reported 22 Covid-related fatalities taking the death toll to 920, while 1,683 new cases pushed the coronaviru­s tally in the state to 36,083, according to a bulletin released by the state government.

Eight deaths were reported from Ludhiana, six from Patiala, three from Jalandhar and one each from Amritsar, Barnala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Mansa and Pathankot, the bulletin said. One death reported from Ludhiana on Tuesday was excluded as the sample tested negative while another death from Sangrur was also excluded as it was counted twice, the bulletin said.

Ludhiana topped the list with 462 positive cases, followed by Jalandhar 208, Patiala 117, Mohali 114, Ferozepur 111, Amritsar 86, Sangrur 68, Moga 64, Bathinda 62 and Fatehgarh Sahib 59. The bulletin said 941 patients were discharged after recovering from infection. So far 22,703 people have been cured of the infection.

There are 12,460 active Covid-19 cases in the state as of now, according to the bulletin.

Among those who got infected in Ludhiana include DPRO Puneetpal

Singh Gill. He is symptomati­c and is currently under home isolation. In Faridkot, additional deputy commission­er (developmen­t) Preetmohin­der Singh Sahota and Faridkot sadar police station SHO Jasveer Singh are among people who tested positive.
