Weapons dropped by Pak drone recovered in Jammu
JAMMU : Security forces on Tuesday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition dropped by a Pakistani drone along the Line of Control (LoC) at two places in Akhnoor sector of Jammu division.
It is the fifth such incident since June 20 when a similar arms-laden drone was shot down by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Kathua district’s Hiranagar sector. Pakistan has adopted the latest modus operandi of using drones to drop arms, ammunition, drugs and money.
Jammu district senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shridhar
Patio said a Pakistani drone dropped arms and ammunition at Sonal and Naiwala Khad—a dry rivulet—in Pallanwala,
which is located about 12km from Akhnoor sector. The arms and ammunition were dropped in the rivulet and the drone flew back into Pakistani territory, he added. He said the area was located at a crucial intersection of the LoC and the International Border (IB). “We have recovered a packed bag that contained two AK-47 assault rifles, three AK magazines, 90 AK bullets, measuring 7.62mm, two pistols and pistol magazines along with bullets,” the SSP added.
“The weapons were supposed to be smuggled to Kashmir Valley. Our initial probe suggests that Jaish-e-Mohammed is behind it,” he added.
“Using drones to drop weapons is new modus operandi used by terror groups” he said. A case under Sections 121, 121-A, 123, 120-B of the IPC and 13/21 ULA(P) Act, 7/27 Indian Arms Act was registered.
