Haryana’s Covid curve continues to plunge

This is the seventh week in succession when the infection curve has continued to flatten in the state

CHANDIGARH: Coronaviru­s cases i n Haryana recorded another low last week (January 4-10) with 1,887 new infections getting reported from across the state. This is the seventh week in succession when the infection curve has continued to flatten in the state.

Last week’s count, as per the health department data, was also less by 274 cases when compared t o t he week before (December 28-January 3) when 2,161 fresh infections were reported. The sample positivity rate of the state also declined further to 5.5 %. The case fatality rate was 1.1% and recovery rate stood at 97.9%, as per the data.

The sampling rate, however, saw a dip last week also. Officials said this was understand­able as the testing rate was bound to come down with the decline in infection. Still, the health authoritie­s tested 1.76 lakh people as compared to 1.82 lakh tested the week before. Health officials said that about 16.25 lakh people have been tested in the past seven weeks (from November 23 till January 10).

Also, 90% of those tested for the virus were subjected to the gold standard RT-PCR test.

Hisar district got out of critical positivity rate parameter last week. So now, only six of the 22 districts have a critical positivity rate of more than 6%.

Faridabad’s positivity rate has further come down to 9.9% while Gurugram’s dropped to 8.2%. Rewari’s positivity rate has dropped to 7.7 %, followed by Panchkula at 7%. Panipat’s positivity rate came down to 6.3 % followed by Ambala at 6.1 %.

Fourteen districts — Hisar, Karnal, Mahenderga­rh, Sonepat, Rohtak, Kurukshetr­a, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Bhiwani, Yamunanaga­r, Palwal, Jind, Kaithal and Jhajjar — have positivity rate of less than or 6%, but higher than the desirable positivity rate of less than 2%. Charkhi Dadri (1.4%) and Nuh (1%) continued to maintain their desirable positivity rate of less than 2% for the last seven weeks.

Haryana records 6 more Covid deaths, 244 new cases

CHANDIGARH: Six more Covid-19 fatalities were reported in Haryana on Monday, taking the death toll to 2,956 while 244 new cases pushed the infection tally to 2,65,199, a state health department bulletin issued here said.

A fatality each was reported from Gurgaon, Panipat, Karnal, Sirsa, Jhajjar and Jind districts, it said.
