HC notice to Punjab govt on Umranangal’s plea
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to Punjab government on a petition filed by Punjab Police IGP Paramraj Singh Umranangal, seeking quashing of FIRs registered against him in connection with Kotkapura and Bajakhana police firing cases.
The high court issued the notice for January 18.
Umranangal in his petition had urged the court to issue directions to remove Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh as member of the SIT constituted to investigate sacrilege incidents in Punjab. Umranangal said that Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh be removed owing to his “malafide intention to falsely implicate him” due to personal grudge.
He had urged the high court to quash the charge sheet filed against him in September 2020, terming it as a backlash to his petition in high court, challenging the departmental proceedings for imposing penalty on him. Umranangal has also urged the high court to transfer investigations of both the cases, registered in Kotkapura and Bajakhana, to the CBI.
CBI probe officer summoned in sacrilege case
The special CBI judge Mohali issued summons to the CBI investigating officer (IO) to appear in the court on January 13 and submit the case files related to the sacrilege case investigations. The summons have been issued following the Punjab and Haryana HC order to the CBI court to provide all material received by the court from the CBI, so that the agency can pass it on to the Punjab Police.
