SHEFFIELD: Tottenham Hotspur’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele conjured a moment of magic to seal his side’s 3-1 victory at the Premier League’s bottom club Sheffield United on Sunday.

Spurs had just seen the commanding lead given to them by Serge Aurier and Harry Kane halved by David McGoldrick’s header on the hour when Ndombele struck with an audacious flicked lob. It was a timely goal for Jose Mourinho’s side as McGoldrick’s effort revived memories of numerous points they have dropped from winning positions this season.

This time, however, they made no mistake to record only their second win in seven league games and move into fourth spot, at least until Manchester City play Crystal Palace later.

Tottenham had looked commanding in the first half with Aurier heading in from a corner after five minutes and Kane’s clinical finish doubling their lead in the 40th minute.

Leicester march on, Chelsea end slump

LONDON: Leicester City maintained their impressive form as a 2-0 home win against Southampton extended their unbeaten Premier League run to five games to lift them into second place on Saturday.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes scored for Leicester.

Maddison’s scorching angled drive after 37 minutes gave them the lead before Barnes raced clear in stoppage time to seal only a fourth home league win of the campaign for Leicester.

There was also an important win for Chelsea who got back on track after a dreadful run of form with a 1-0 victory at Fulham.

Chelsea had won only one of their previous six league games, slipping way off the pace, and they laboured against a tiring Fulham side who were reduced to 10 men when Antonee Robinson was sent off in the 44th minute for a foul on Cesar Azpilicueta. But just when it looked as though Fulham might hold out for a sixth successive Premier League draw, Mason Mount rifled in a 78th minute winner after a mistake by keeper Alphonse Areola.

Kurzawa on target as PSG beat Angers

PARIS: Layvin Kurzawa scored a second-half goal as a lacklustre Paris St Germain moved top of the Ligue 1 table with a 1-0 victory at Angers on Saturday.

Fullback Kurzawa volleyed home for his first goal of the season, allowing PSG to move onto 42 points from 20 games.

PSG were without coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has been isolating since Friday after testing positive for Covid-19.
