2 protesting farmers die at Tikri border
ROHTAK: Two farmers participating in the ongoing farmers’ agitation demanding a repeal of three farm laws and a guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) at Tikri border, have lost their lives in the last 24 hours.
A 65-year-old farmer, Dhanna Singh, of Tunda village in Punjab’s Patiala has reportedly died of cardiac arrest at Tikri-Bahadurgarh border in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to farmers, he was camping in Bahadurgarh for past couple of days. When he did not wake up on Wednesday morning, he was rushed to the civil hospital in Bahadurgarh where he was declared brought dead.
Also, a 42-year-old farmer who had consumed poison at Tikri on Tuesday, has died while undergoing treatment.
A spokesman of Jhajjar police said the Rohtak-based farmer had consumed poison near the protest site at Tikri border. He was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Delhi, where he died during treatment on Wednesday.
In the a suicide note, he had written, “I am a small farmer. Many farmers have taken to streets to protest against the Centre’s farm laws. The government claimed that it is an issue of 2-3 states, but farmers across country are protesting. It is not a movement but a fight of issues.” The police have started inquest proceedings in both the cases.
