Now, 75% frontline workers missing jabs

AMRITSAR : After Punjab’s healthcare workers responded poorly to the coronaviru­s vaccine in the first inoculatio­n phase, other frontline warriors are also showing reluctance and nearly 75% are seen skipping their scheduled jab sessions.

Around 1.8 lakh frontline warriors from Punjab are registered for prioritise­d vaccinatio­n in the second phase of the inoculatio­n drive. Since the beginning of the second phase from February 2, only 5,494 frontline workers (25%) have been vaccinated in Punjab, against the target of 21,734. Of the 5,494 vaccinated frontliner­s, 3,859 (nearly 71%) are from tpolice department.

Punjab nodal officer for Covid-19, Dr Rajesh Bhaskar said, “Police personnel are showing great enthusiasm in taking the vaccine. Some of the policemen who skipped their vaccine sessions were busy in their scheduled duties. Also, the employees of local bodies department are busy with the civic body elections.”

Health secy, other officials inoculated

MOHALI : Principal health secretary Hussan Lal and principal secretary medical education and research D K Tewari on Friday received Covishied jabs at the Mohali civil hospital in the presence of Punjab chief secretary Vini Mahajan.

Moreover, 133 frontline workers, including inspector general (IG) Lakshmee Kant Yadav, IG Vibhu Raj, AIG (vigilance) Ashish Kapoor, superinten­dent of police HS Bhullar and ADGP law and order Ishwar Singh were among other officials who received the jabs at the civil hospital.
