Dense fog engulfs Punjab & Haryana

The minimum temperatur­e stayed above normal levels in several parts of Punjab and Haryana, the meteorolog­ical department said on Saturday.

In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala registered their respective lows at 10.8, 9.8 and 10°C, up to five degrees above normal. Pathankot, Adampur, Halwara, Bathinda, Faridkot and Gurdaspur recorded their minimum temperatur­es at 13.4, 12, 8.6, 9, 10 and 8.8°C respective­ly. In Haryana, the minimum temperatur­e of Ambala, Hisar and Karnal settled at 10.5, 10.4 and 10.8°C respective­ly, up to two degrees above normal.

Narnaul, Rohtak, Bhiwani and Sirsa registered their respective lows at 6.4, 12.6, 11.5 and 10.3°C, the MeT office said.

Fog enveloped several places including Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak and Bhiwani on Saturday morning.

Light snowfall likely in parts of Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The minimum temperatur­e across Kashmir, except in Gulmarg, improved on Saturday, even as the mercury settled above the freezing point in Srinagar and Kulgam, officials said.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.2°C last night, up from the previous night’s minus 0.6°C, they said.

Pahalgam tourist resort, which also serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.3°C, up from minus 4.6°C the previous night. The minimum temperatur­e in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, settled at minus 3.8°C last night, down from minus 2.4°C the previous night, the officials said.

They said the resort was the only place in the valley where the minimum temperatur­e dropped last night.

Meanwhile, the meteorolog­ical department has said that while the weather is expected to remain mainly dry in the plains of J&K, there is a possibilit­y of very light snowfall on the higher reaches.
