Portrait of Nankana massacre martyr unveiled at Sikh museum

AMRITSAR : The portrait of Bhai Lachhman Singh Dharowali, a martyr of the Nankana Sahib massacre, was unveiled at the Central Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple complex on Monday.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Jagir Kaur and Akal Takht acting Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh were present during the unveiling ceremony.

Jagir Kaur said, “The sacrifices made by the Sikhs during the Gurdwara Reform Movement to liberate Nankana Sahib, birthplace of Guru Nanak, from the corrupt mahants were exemplary. These martyrs are a source of inspiratio­n for the future generation­s. The installati­on of the portrait will give the sangat a glimpse into the life of people who sacrificed their lives for the dignity of the shrine.”

Giani Harpreet Singh commended the SGPC for its decision to display the portrait in the museum.

505 pilgrims get visas for Pak

Of total 629 pilgrims who applied for visa of Pakistan for the jatha (batch) being sent by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to attend centenary event of Nankana massacre at Nankana Sahib, 505 have been granted the visas.

Spokespers­on of the SGPC said 629 visa applicatio­ns attached with the passports were sent to the embassy of Pakistan, of which 124 were rejected. He said the jatha would leave for Pakistan on February 18 through Attari-Wagah border.

He said the pilgrims would be able to collect their passports from the SGPC head office on February 17.
