JALANDHAR : The general house of Jalandhar municipal corporation (MC) passed a resolution to cancel an advertisement contract of a private firm in Jalandhar on Friday for alleged irregularities in tendering process in connivance with officials and financial loss to the government to the tune to ₹4 crore.

The ad-hoc committee of the house for advertisement gave recommendations to cancel the advertisement contract of 59 unipoles in A-zone of city to private firm “Creative Advertisers” stating that irregularities were committed by the contractor in connivance with officials and alleged financial loss to the corporation.

Following the recommendations, the general house meeting was called on Friday where cross-party councillors raised the matter and demanded cancellation of the contract.

MC officials miffed with ad hoc panel’s report

The MC officials got miffed by the ad-hoc panel’s report and announced not to attend the meeting.

A senior civic official seeking anonymity said litigation has been pending in the matter, but the legal validity of the resolution is not known.

He added that while the MC has been getting ₹1.75 crore from the advertisement contract from A-zone, not a single penny has been received from the rest three zones.

The MC house, instead of generating revenue from three zones, is cancelling a contract that generated revenue.
