TARN TARAN : A 38-year-old woman, Gurpreet Kaur, was bludgeoned to death, allegedly, by her husband, Major Singh, over a dispute over a domestic issue at their home in Chahal village that falls under Sara-EAmanat Khan police station, on Saturday night.

The victim’s elder son Karanbir Singh (19) said, “My younger brother Yodhbir Singh, 15, who is physically challenged, called and informed me that our mother was first suffocated and then hit with an iron rod by our father on Saturday night after an argument. Yodhbir also told me that after attacking our mother, our father took him along by locking the doors of the house.”

He said, “I called up and informed about the incident to my paternal aunt Rajwinder Kaur. When she, along with some villagers, reached our house, they found the doors locked. They broke the locks and found my mother’s body on the bed.”

Sara-E-Amanat Khan SHO Harpreet Singh said the body had been sent to the Tarn Taran civil hospital for post-mortem. He added they had registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian penal code (IPC) against the victim’s husband, who is absconding. Villagers claimed that the couple were known to be fighting a lot with each other over minor issues.
