SHIMLA: An anganwadi worker died at the IGMC, Shimla, three weeks after getting vaccinated.
The 56-year-old woman belonged to Sujanpur subdivision of Hamirpur district and was inoculated on January 29.
State health authorities said the exact cause of her death will be known after autopsy.
It has been learnt that the woman was also suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks nerves. However, her health deteriorated a week after she was given the Covid-19 vaccine shot.
She was first admitted to a hospital in Hamirpur from where she was shifted to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College after her condition did not improve. She was later moved to IGMC. The health authorities are investigating that if her condition was previously known, then why was she given the shot.
Meanwhile, senior medical superintendent of IGMC, Dr
Janak Raj said it was wrong to link the death with vaccine.
He said the woman was given the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine on January 29. “She complained of weakness in legs on February 6 and got her tests done at Hamirpur hospital where she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. She was then shifted to RPGMC and put on ventilator. There, she developed septicemia due to ventilator associated complications and was found positive for cytomegalovirus,” he added.
