FARIDKOT: Alleging that suspended inspector general of police Paramraj Singh Umranangal tried to influence witnesses and put pressure on prosecution agency, the special investigation team (SIT), probing 2015 police firing cases, on Tuesday filed a plea in Faridkot court seeking to procure CCTV footage of the court complex.
The SIT has filed an application before district and sessions judge for procuring the CCTV footage of the periphery of the court complex of February 19 between 11am and 12am for the purpose of “fair probe and trial”.
The SIT urged the court to treat the application as a protest petition . “Take appropriate and legal cognisance against accused by exercising the judicial power vested with the court and further necessary direction may be issued in this regard,” SIT said.
On February 19, Umranangal and other accused, appeared before the trial court at Faridkot in the Kotkapura firing case. SIT has claimed that during appearance, Umranangal came to the court complex with many people in order to create pressure on the prosecution agency and the witnesses. Following SIT’s application, the court issued a notice to Umranangal’s counsel and summoned him to appear on February 24 with the record.
