Karnal woman tests positive for black fungus after death

KARNAL: Two cases of mucormycos­is or black fungus were reported in Karnal, officials of the health department said on Monday. A 65-year-old woman of Karnal’s Hansi Road died on Friday. A day after her death she was tested positive for black fungus on Saturday.

Officials said that she was tested positive for Covid-19 on May 2 and admitted at KCGMCH. She died on May 14 after complainin­g of breathless­ness. In another case, a 39-yearold man from Bal Pabana village in district has been admitted at KCGMCH, Karnal. Dr Jagdish Dureja, director of KCGMC, said that two cases of black fungus have been reported in hospital. One woman has died and another is under treatment.

As per hospital records, another patient was admitted in the hospital on April 20 after he was tested positive for coronaviru­s and now has been diagnosed with black fungus. The Haryana government had declared black fungus as a notified disease and designated four hospitals for people who have contracted the infection will be treated.

Task force formed

GURUGRAM: The Haryana government on Monday formed a 12-member task force to monitor cases of mucormycos­is, or black fungus, in the state and to streamline distributi­on of the drug — amphoteric­in — used in its treatment to hospitals. Two doctors from Gurugram are also members of the task force.

BJP councillor dies of Covid

Four-time Karnal ward 7 councillor Sudarshan Kalra has died of Covid at a private hospital in Mohali. As per officials of the district health department, Kalra was suffering from Covid and pneumonia for the last couple of days and was admitted at a private hospital. Khattar expressed condolence­s to the aggrieved family.
