THE MAN KILLED HIS 10-YR-OLD SON AND 12-YR-OLD DAUGHTER AFTER AN ARGUMENT WITH HIS WIFE ON MAY 26, POLICE OFFICIALS SAID

MUMBAI: A 30-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai on Saturday for allegedly killing his 10-yearold son and 12-year-old daughter in West Bengal last month and then fleeing the state. After the act, he allegedly sent a video of the dead children to his wife, who lodged a police complaint.

The accused, identified by the police as Khudabaksha Imran Shaikh, a resident of Murshidabad district in West Bengal, killed his son and daughter last week after he reportedly had a fight with his second wife.

According to the police, the accused has three wives.

While the whereabouts of the first wife – the mother of the children he allegedly murdered – is unknown, the accused was currently living with his second wife. Police officials said that he had recently married a third time as well. This, the officials added, was one of the main reasons he would often have arguments with the second wife. The children were also one of the reasons behind their quarrels, police officials familiar with the case said.

“Shaikh, an alcoholic, would often strike his wife after an argument”, said Sudhir Jadhav of Crime Branch Unit 7.

“On May 26, after one such quarrel, Shaikh allegedly kicked his wife out of the house and in a fit of rage, allegedly strangled his children to death”, said Jadhav.

He then clicked a picture and made a video and sent it to his second wife, before fleeing from the spot.

After the murder, he came to Mumbai on May 28 and started staying with his friend in Mulund, who even helped him acquire a job at a builder’s site nearby, said an investigating officer. The accused’s friend was not aware of the crime.

The double murder case was registered in Bel Danga police station in Murshidabad area after his second wife registered a case, added officer.

During investigation, West Bengal police found out that Shaikh was hiding in Mumbai, so a police team came to the financial capital on June 2. The Crime Branch Unit 7 started conducting an inquiry and investigators conducted a technical analysis to find out the location of the accused.

He was then traced to northeast Mumbai’s Mulund suburb, said a police officer. Shaikh was produced in the a court on Saturday and was sent into transit remand till June 9.
