The Aam Aadmi Party’s district unit in-charge and sarpanch of Gharachon village, Gurmail Singh is considered close to chief minister Bhagwant Mann. He is banking upon the charisma and following of Mann, who had defeated stalwarts in the last two Lok Sabha elections and led the party’s win from all nine segments under Sangrur parliamentary constituency in the state polls.

The former state legislator from Dhuri, Dalvir Singh Goldy has again entered the election fray after losing his assembly seat to Bhagwant Mann in the recent state polls. A former Youth Congress leader, he is trying to corner the Mann government on issues of law and order and non-fulfilment of pre-poll promises, such as free power and ₹1000 per month to women.

Foster sister of CM Beant Singh’s assassin Balwant Singh Rajoana, Kamaldeep Kaur was not a natural choice for the Shiromani Akali Dal. Finding it tough to find a strong candidate, the SAD banked on Panthic politics and fielded her following an appeal by the Akal Takht jathedar. Pushing for the release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentences is her main agenda.

In the 2019 general elections, Kewal Dhillon was pitted against Bhagwant Mann as the Congress candidate. Expelled from the party ahead of the assembly polls this year, the former MLA switched over to the BJP and was fielded as its candidate the very next day. He is seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while raising the issue of law and order. The radical Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader with the best oratory skills among all candidates, Simranjit Singh Mann says he is fighting for the pride of Sikhs and Punjabis. After the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who had promised to support him, the former two-time Lok Sabha member is riding on a sympathy wave in rural belts of Sangrur seat.
