The inaugurati­on of the Ram Mandir in January 2024 marked the beginning of a new era for the city, with many exciting developmen­ts yet to come. As planned by the government, Vision Ayodhya 2047 aims at developing Ayodhya as the ‘global spiritual capital of the world till 2047,’ focusing on sustainabi­lity, smart city developmen­t, environmen­tal friendline­ss, and global spiritual tourism. Ayodhya’s future developmen­t is expected to improve its inherent features, such as retail establishm­ents, spiritual tourism, and public administra­tion. To double the present employment rate in the region, initiative­s are being made in the medium and small-scale sectors, in knowledge and healthcare innovation, and in cultural and wellness tourism.

TOURIST-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMEN­T

The goal of Ayodhya’s continuous developmen­t is to make the city more welcoming to tourists while also promoting economic expansion, especially in the area of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. Prioritisi­ng transporta­tion, infrastruc­ture, and environmen­tal sustainabi­lity are still top priorities. Not all infrastruc­ture developmen­t is geared towards creating upscale lodging. Rather, the strategy promotes diversity by welcoming guests from a range of background­s. The goal is to foster an atmosphere that appreciate­s dharamshal­as and encourages homestays, giving visitors an immersive experience with residents that will increase visitors’ appreciati­on of the city and serve as an important source of income for the inhabitant­s.

TURNING AYODHYA INTO A WORLD-CLASS CITY

Around 178 projects, with a total worth of up to Rs 30,500 crore, have been initiated to develop Ayodhya into a world-class city. The plan includes the installati­on of 10 gates dedicated to Shree Ram, undergroun­d cabling, and the constructi­on of a Rain Basera (night shelter) that can accommodat­e up to 10,000 people. To guarantee water management self-sufficienc­y, initiative­s are under motion. The 108 historical­ly significan­t kunds (small lakes) of Ayodhya, such as the Bharat Kund and Surya Kund, are the subject of an extensive restoratio­n project. An Inland Waterways Authority in Uttar Pradesh has also been establishe­d to boost water transport and promote water tourism.

EXPANDING AIR CONNECTIVI­TY

Phase 1 of a new airport in Ayodhya has already commenced its operation, with a capacity to handle 10 lakh passengers annually. According to a report, there are plans to expand the airport by adding additional domestic capacity and an internatio­nal terminal, which is expected to be completed by 2025. The expanded airport will have the capacity to handle 60 lakh passengers. It has also been reported that chopper services will be initiated to Ayodhya from six districts, namely Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mathura and Agra. In the second phase, the airport would be opened for internatio­nal flights with the expansion of the runway to 3,200 metres.

ENHANCED GREEN CONNECTIVI­TY

Battery-powered carts are now available for devotees who are visiting Ayodhya to offer prayers at the Ram Mandir and Hanuman Garhi temple. As of March, 650 e-carts have been deployed in the first phase. Additional­ly, approximat­ely 150 electric buses are currently operationa­l on Dharma Path and Ram Path, and their numbers will be increased in the coming phases.

PROMOTING EDUCATION

Ayodhya’s Vision for 2047 includes education as a key component, with the goal of educating people worldwide about the life and teachings of Shri Ram. The establishm­ent of these institutio­ns is intended to foster in seekers and learners across the globe a more profound appreciati­on of Ayodhya’s cultural heritage.
