Ex-CM Beant Singh’s picture on hoardings of BJP riles Congress
The use of former chief minister Beant Singh on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hoardings by his grandson and sitting MP Ravneet Singh Bittu has riled up Congress which took offence to it.
Taking to micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter), Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring snubbed Bittu over the use of the picture and said he was making a mockery of his grandfather’s sacrifice. Bittu hit back and accused Congress of ignoring his grandfather’s sacrifice for the last 25 years.
Bittu, who is grandson of Beant Singh, had on March 26 last month switched over from Congress to the saffron party which announced him as its candidate from Ludhiana on March 31.
The hoardings put up by Bittu have a picture of the ex-CM Beant Singh along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders.
Taking to X, Warring said “Bittu ji tusi aap taan BJP de kheme wich khad ke apni satta di bhukh wali shakhsiyat nu jag-jahir kar ditta hai (Bittu, by switching allegiance to BJP you have exposed your hunger for the power).”
“Par Sardar Beant Singh ji di chitti pag nu ta bakhsh deo, uhna nu taan badnam na karo (Please spare the white turban of Sardar Beant Singh, don’t bring a blot to his personality). Ohna di photo ah votan layi varat ke ohna di shahadat da majak baan rahe to, akal nu hath maro (You are making mockery of his sacrifice by using his pictures for votes, have some shame),” Warring further added.
Minutes later, Bittu took to ‘X’ and said that Congress has always ignored Beant Singh’s sacrifice.
Tagging Warring in his post, Bittu said: “Shaheed partiyan to’n uppar hunde han. Congress ne mere Dada ji di sarv uch kurbani nu kade vi maanta nahi ditti (Martyrs are above the parties. Congress has never given due respect to the supreme sacrifice of my grandfather.”
“PPCC Dasse ki 25 saal vich chona ya party de programa’n ch ohna di kurbani ka kade jikar v kita hai (Can the PPCC chief tell in the past 25 years when have they ever remembered Beant Singh in the elections or any party programmes).”
“Chandigarh Congress Bhawan sahmne to Beant Singh ji de but kyu hataye gaye? (Why were statues of Beant Singh removed from Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh?),” Bittu further said.
Bittu justified the use of his grandfather Beant Singh’s picture on the hoardings and said: “I am carrying the legacy of my grandfather forward, and no one can stop me from using his pictures.”
