KOCHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre wants to impose one history, one nation and one language on the people of India and is trying to create disharmony in the country, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday.

Gandhi, who is the Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad and is seeking re-election from the constituency in this year’s general elections, also alleged the BJP was attempting to change the diversity of the country, whereas the Congress accepts the differences.

“By using the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation as political weapons, the BJP is trying to change the nature of our country. The Congress and UDF accept the diversity of India. We accept the multiple languages, traditions, and different histories of all our people. The BJP wants to impose one history, one nation, and one language on the people,” he said while addressing a rally in Kannur.

“First of all, it (diversity) can never be changed. You are wasting your time. But most importantly, you are also wasting the energy of the Indian people. You are creating disharmony and this disharmony is harming mil

lions of people,” he added.

Besides Kannur, the Congress leader also addressed public meetings in Kottayam and Palakkad. In Kottayam, Gandhi accused the BJP of dividing the country whenever it gets an opportunity. “Whenever they get an opportunity, they divide the country,’ he said.

Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP were dividing the country to distract the nation from key issues. “All they do is give away India’s wealth to a few people. They divide the country to distract the nation and then all the wealth of the country goes to a few people who are close to the Prime Minister,” he said at a rally in Palakkad.
