Singer Vicky Chauhan among eight injured in Shimla pile-up
Accident took place after truck rams into over a dozen vehicles at Bhattakufar; all eight are non-critical, being treated at IGMC
Eight people, including folk singer Vicky Chauhan, were injured when an uncontrolled truck rammed into over a dozen vehicles at Bhattakufar in Dhalli locality of Shimla.
The incident occurred at around 12.30 pm near the fruit market in Bhattakuffar. A rescue team was rushed to the spot soon after the incident and the injured have been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College ( IGMC). All injured were stated to be non-critical by hospital authorities.
Police said the truck loaded with apples went out of control after a brake failure. The multiaxle truck collided with the wall before it rammed over the two dozen vehicles parked by the roadside.
Eyewitness Dinesh Kumar, a motor mechanic, said he was waiting for a bus in the area when suddenly the truck came crashing towards the wall, seemingly out of the driver’s control. He added that the truck ended up hitting the vehicles parked by the side of the road.
“There was panic among the people and they started running frantically. Three girl students of the private nursing institute were hit, while Vicky Chauhan’s fortuner car was pushed inside a nearby workshop after the truck rammed into it. Another woman, along with her son were injured, “he added.
Accidents commonplace in the area: residents
Residents said accidents in the area were commonplace because of the vegetable market, which often leads to heavy traffic jams, adding that they have been demanding the removal and relocation of the market for a long time.
Deputy superintendent of police Manga Ram, who reached the accident spot, said the police have registered a case and an investigation had been initiated.
“The cause of the accident will be ascertained only after an investigation,” he added.
Identifying the injured, he said, “A 20-year-old student, Aarushi, another 20-year-old. Shruti, 32- year- old Deepak Agarwal, 43- year- old Vicky Chauhan, his wife 31-year-old Shweta and the couple’s twoyear-old son Nivan, 60-year-old Kanta Devi and 18-year-old Dil Bahadur were injured in the accident.”
