MEHBOOBA: PAGD CONSTITUENTS KEEPING ASIDE DIFFERENCES TO OPPOSE BJP
On Janata Dal (United) breaking up an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar, former J&K chief minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that in J&K political parties opposing the BJP are looking beyond political differences to forge an alliance in the form of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD).
Five parties including two big regional parties, National Conference and the PDP are part of the PAGD. The parties came together ahead of district development council elections held in 2020. Though Peoples Conference led by Sajjad Lone was also part of that alliance, he however quit soon after the DDC polls ended. Mehbooba Mufti accused BJP of using every agency against parties to make country opposition free.
“The predicament Nitish Kumar & opposition parties find themselves in isn’t just because they are facing BJP. Instead they are facing the might of an authoritarian government thats weaponising every agency be it NIA, ED, CBI etc to ensure an opposition free India,” tweeted Mehbooba Mufti while reacting on Bihar chief minister, Nitesh Kumar announcing to break alliance with the BJP.
Mehbooba Mufti said in J&K now leaders of political parties are looking beyond politics.
“For J&K the damage isn’t restricted to only political parties. It’s far worse as the state has been butchered & disempowered unconstitutionally. Exactly why parties here looked beyond political differences to forge an alliance in the form of PAGD,” she said.
