Arjun Tendulkar has applied for a No Objection Certificate ( NOC) from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and has shown interest in playing for Goa in domestic cricket. In the Ranji Trophy, Goa are placed in Elite Group C.

The 22-year-old all-rounder has taken the decision to shift to Goa because of the lack of chances in Mumbai.

“Getting maximum game time on the ground is important for Arjun at this juncture of his career. We believe that the shift will improve the probability of Arjun featuring in more competitive matches. He is embarking on a new phase of his cricketing career,” SRT Sports Management said in a statement.

The left-arm pacer played two games for Mumbai during the 2020- 21 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Haryana and Puducherry respectively.

GCA president Suraj Lotlikar said that Arjun will be considered for their pre-season training camp. His selection will be based on his performance in the pre-season matches.

“That is our routine process because we are allowed to take three professionals. We were looking for a young left-arm pace bowler and two all-rounders; we have got two all-rounders and Arjun has shown interest (to play for Goa), Goa has welcomed it, but he has to prove himself. The normal selection process will take place. He is talented, now he has to prove himself.

“We told him you join us and selectors will see you. He will be joining in Goa, starting with the strengthening and fitness camp because it rains here at this time of the year. Then based on the performances, the selectors will pick the side,” said Lotlikar.

There have been quite a few examples of players from Mumbai joining other states due to a lack of opportunities in Mumbai. Rohan Gavaskar, son of former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, had chosen to play for Bengal.
