Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said Congress has become like a TV reality show as its leader are tearing each other’s clothes for their vested interest. He said India’s grand old party will be extinct soon.

Addressing an election rally at Gauchar in Chamoli district, in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Pauri Garhwal Lok Sabha seat Anil Baluni, Singh said, “There is no difference between words and actions on the ground in BJP. However, Congress has become like the TV show Bigg Boss. Its leaders are tearing each other’s clothes for their vested interest. Congress will be extinct soon.”

The defence minister said, “During Congress rule, several brokerage cases and scams emerged in several defence deals but in the last 10-year period no one across the world can allege even a single such corruption case. India is not the same as before, now it has turned into a powerful country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Countries of the world listen to India seriously now.”

Citing an example of the American ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, he said, “Two days ago, the American ambassador had said to the world if you want to see the future or work in future, come to India. When our students who had gone to Ukraine to study were trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war, on the request of Modi, both Russia and Ukraine ceased the war for over 4.30 hours to give them a pass and move out safely.”

The defence minister said the BJP government scrapped Article 370, implemented the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and constructed the Ram temple in Ayodhya. “India will emerge as a powerful country in the 21st century,” he said.

He said Uttarakhand is not just a land of spiritualism but also a land of bravery and valour. “Uttarakhand is considered a ‘Devbhoomi’(or land of gods) where gods reside in every corner. BJP is making every effort for the holistic development of the state,” he said.

He said that the youngsters of the state are ahead of any other state when it comes to the protection of the borders.

“Not only people of India but also NRIs know Uttarakhand as Devbhoomi. Devbhoomi has always played a vital role in the protection of the country and ensuring the respect of our country. The young generation of this state protect our boundaries by putting their lives at risk. Our PM Modi has respect for the armed forces and soon after forming the government, BJP implemented the OROP (one rank-one pension) scheme. Nothing is more precious than life,” the defence minister said.

He further said India is now a self-reliant country. “Earlier India used to import arms and ammunition from other countries, but now we export arms and ammunition to the world manufactured on Indian soil by Indian hands.”

He said India fought Covid-19 pandemic more effectively than other countries.

“Due to Modi’s vision and efforts, vaccines were produced here and administered to our citizens. Such an effort was not seen in any country of the world. We want to strengthen relationships with our neighbours but we also know how to deal with them if they cause trouble and loss to our country.”

Lauding the development work in the state, Singh said, “Modi has affection with Uttarakhand. New highways, airports, helipads and other infrastructure projects have been developed here. Around 900 km of highways have been constructed and the setting up of ropeways are underway. The facelift of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Hemkund Sahib is also being carried out…”

Praising Anil Baluni, a party candidate from Pauri Garhwal parliamentary seat, he said, “Baluni is not just sensitive towards protection of the society, culture and tradition, but also has a zeal for the development of his area. When I was the home minister, he used to come with the hill state’s problems and I used to try to sort out the problems without any delay.”

He appealed to the public to elect Baluni with a high margin of votes.
