Wanted criminal slapped with PSA charges in Jammu
ACCUSED IS CURRENLY LODGED IN THE KOT BHALWAL JAIL
A wanted criminal was booked under the stringent Public Safety Act and lodged in the high-security Kot Bhalwal Jail on the outskirts of Jammu city on Monday, police officials said on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Sonu alias Ranjha, a resident of Valmiki Colony.
Sharing further details about the case, a police spokesperson said, “Jammu Police, in a significant breakthrough, have apprehended Sonu, also known as Ranjha, a resident of Valmiki Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Sonu was wanted under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act 1978, as per a warrant issued by the Jammu district magistrate.”
According to the information, Sonu has been involved in several criminal activities, including cases registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, and the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Act.
Notable among these are first information reports (FIR) registered under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (whoever, except in the case provided for by section 334, voluntarily causes hurt) and 452 (trespassing) of the Indian Penal Code along with violations of the Arms Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The apprehension of Sonu was the result of diligent efforts and the utilisation of human intelligence by the Jammu Police, particularly in the South Zone. Raids conducted in Valmiki Nagar led to the successful arrest of this notorious individual, the spokesperson added.
The accused is lodged at the Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, he added.
