Malvika tugs at heartstrings with her song
Singer, writer Malvika Hariom (right) tugged at the heartstrings of the audience and special guests with her opening song: ‘Hum aise jahan mein rehtey hain... janey kya-kya sehtey hain,’ describing how children are forced to bear abuse silently and no one pays heed to their helplessness.
Sung at the HT woman award function that coincided with mother’s day, the song also highlighted how victims of sexual abuse often do not get support from mothers. “Koi to suney kissey kahein ..bachhey hain to kya sab sehtey rahen...koi to samjhey dil ke is veeraney ko...ma tub hi na samjhi merey afsaney ko .... ” (Will someone listen to us? Do we have to bear everything as we are kids? Oh mother, please understand our plight.) The music was in sync with the essence of the theme and the lyrics beautifully narrated the society’s reaction and lack of support for victims of child sexual abuse. Behind the pain was also a ray of hope and optimism in the song, which said that children would no more bear abuse silently and raise their voice-‘Chuppiyon ka waqt gaya.. uthaenge kadam naya’ (It is time to break the silence and take a new step).
Malvika left the audience emotional as she beautifully conveyed a simple yet powerful message through her lyrics highlighting the need to respect childhood. The lines, ‘Duniya ne ankhein pheri, kisi ne suni na meri...nanhi pari main.. ghar ki rajdulari main... chota tan hai..iskey bheetar mann hai...kuchlo na isko baar-baar .... ’ marked a perfect ending to her song and the hall resonated with applauses.
“I had never imagined how brutal the issue of child abuse could be unless I got down to writing a song on the theme and imagining the pain the victims undergo. The feeling is really terrible,” said Malvika after the show.
