T ‘I’M NOT A CLOSED PERSON’
Katrina Kaif says she is comfortable sharing the parts of her life that are only hers
he extremely private Katrina Kaif surprised everyone when she made her social media debut last year. Recently, she joined Instagram, giving her 2.2 million Insta-followers a peek into her “real life”.
Has she now changed the privacy settings in her mind? Katrina says that the fiercely guarded privacy she is known for pertains more to others than to herself. The actor explains, “Personal life has two definitions — one that is your life, and the other that involves the relationships or the partner you are with. In terms of people wanting a peek into my personal world, I’m comfortable with that. It’s me showing parts of my life that I’m happy to show. I have no qualms about that; I’m not a closed person in that sense. But, I’ve never been a big fan of talking about another person. Because how can I speak for — and about — another person, unless you’re as sure as you can be?
“And a lot of times, when you become as sure as you can be, even then, things change. If you are a hundred per cent sure about that department of your life, then you can be vocal about it. But until then, what’s the point? The lesson to be learnt is: just speak for yourself and let the other person speak for themselves.”
On the subject of speaking up, we ask for Kat’s view on celebrities being asked to comment on any and every issue. Is it necessary that they must have an opinion? “The answer for me is no. For some people it might be yes,” she says. “About half the things that go on in the world, I’m not well informed. Until I do my research thoroughly, I’d rather not say anything. If you’re going to speak your mind on any sensitive topic, then have all the information available.”
While she believes in being informed, Katrina is not into vanity Googling — she doesn’t care much about what the Internet is saying about her, unless it looks like there’s something epic out there. “I only Google myself at times, when people around me are freaking out over some piece of information that is all over [the web]. Then I go to Google, and I know that everyone is talking about the same thing... Then, if I have to, I’ll pay attention to what the person is saying. If not, then I’m like, ‘It’s okay, it will come and go.’”
