‘Always lovely’ to work with Alia
They started their careers together (with Student of The Year, 2012). And since then, there have been umpteen stories about link-ups, break-ups and patch-ups between Varun Dhawan (above) and Alia Bhatt. But Varun isn’t losing any sleep over it.
“It’s all good. Alia and I have worked together [in multiple films] and we enjoy working with one another. I did my first film with her and now my third one (Badrinath Ki Dulhania, 2017) too. So, it’s all nice and it’s always lovely working with her. People enjoy watching us together, which is the most important thing. At the end of the day, Alia is a friend of mine,” he says.
In fact, towards the end of 2016, rumours were doing the rounds that they went on a lunch date while shooting for Badrinath Ki Dulhania in Singapore. Then, Alia, who is reportedly dating Sidharth Malhotra, told us that unlike other stories, this rumour had “bothered” her.
“Yes, it was very upsetting for me, too. Alia and I were working extremely hard [in Singapore] on the film. We were conscious of the fact that we were pairing up for the third time, and so, we were like, ‘How should we do something novel and unique?’” he says. In the middle of all that, while they were putting in “so many hours every day with the director”, these dating rumours surfaced.
Varun says, “Sometimes, these things make your work look frivolous. People are like, ‘Yaar, yeh log yahi kar rahein hain (they are doing this only).’ It got irritating at that point, but now, it’s fine. It’s part and parcel of being an actor, and you also take such things with a pinch of salt.”
Right now, says Varun, he feels “disconnected” from “who is saying what or who is writing what.”
