It was a day of emotions from the winners and nominees at the HT Woman Award 2017 on Sunday. But at the end of the day all were happy to be part of the event.
HT Woman 2017 winner Begum Masroor Jahan was elated after her big win. Talking HT City, she said, “I never thought that HT will honour me this big. It feels my entire life has summed up in this trophy. My writing is getting recognition. What else one wants than this.”
Runner-up Rashmi Gupta too was overwhelmed when she heard her name being announced. She said, “Nothing could get better than this for me. For me and for others in my city (Bareilly), HT has been a ‘fearless’ newspaper, something which we all admire.” Rashmi was thankful for her friend from Odhisa who nominated her.
HT Lifetime Achievement winner Mannu Ghosh from Vrindavan was surprised that her cause to got a platform with the help of Hindustan Times. “This is a big victory for me. I was not expecting a standing ovation she left me teary eyed. I remember starting my journey from a small ashram and now it has s lending a helping hand to the ones in need.
The young girl from Lakhimpur Kheri, Nidhi Mishra who was the winner in Sadda Haq category, was all charged up. She excitedly added, “I’m on cloud nine. This award means the world to me see where my parents’ faith in me got me today. And this will now help me to do better and achieve more in life.”
This year also saw an award being introduced for men. And the first winner was mental conditioning coach Sarandeep Singh who was nominated by Rio Paralympics medalist Deepa Malik. After winning the award he said, “I’m actually feeling proud and humble both. Big thanks to HT for making me a part of this contest. My winning will definitely help me to reach out to many more out there. We still need to work extensively in near future.”
HT Khel Khiladi winner Seema Tomar got an opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day on the HT Woman plarform. “I wanted to take the award with my mother because she’s the my guiding star and I’m grateful to HT for giving me an opportunity to make this day especial for my mother too. Such awards are a real booster for all. We sports people need such platforms.”
Taking the win as the real support to their cause the Clean & Green Crusaders, Eco Friends Welfare Society members were thrilled with the award, “It’s a great feeling to be here. HT is doing a commendable work for seven years now and we are lucky to be part of their journey.”
Other than winners the nominees too were upbeat and took the loss in their stride. One such
nominee Mohsina Mirza, “I think I am on top the world right now. People are recognizing my work, I have been on the pages of HT City for almost a month and my neighbors have started to applaud my achievements. What matter is being recognized, winning or losing is not big a deal.”
Animal Care nominee Caroline Borges says that participation in the awards, meeting people working for the cause and keeping up the good work going is more important. “It does not matter whether you win or not,” she says. Another nominee, Kanchan Maurya too was totally content and said she will work harder to win the award next time.
