My ‘Things to Do’ list

- Vikas Bhandari

Each day in our life brings a set of tasks that we need to complete on that particular day. In random order- we need to catch up on our office work, go out with kids, buy groceries, reply to those emails, take that appointment with the dentist, hit the gym and more. Then as if all this is not enough our friendly social media app adds even more tiny tasks to our neverending to-do-lists. Update Status, Like, Check for likes on your Update, Comment, Reply to a comment, Share, Upload, Download, Tweet, Retweet, Blog, Check-in etc... These are some examples I can site without even lifting my pen from the writing pad. Although there are many more ‘to dos’ on those mobile apps that have been consuming time of an average adult’s day, lately.

Since this article is for those who like to read and appreciate a good sense of humour ;) and also I’m no preacher of time management, in fact I may just be the opposite, therefore I will stick to the list...yeah! The “to do” list. Which in my case, I wonder seems to consist of everything from my to do list of yesterday!

‘Waking up’ also forms part of my to do list since it is the second most tough task of the day, next to ‘bathing’... it’s only a joke. My to do list is also a very handy tool for me to procrastinate a thing for future by simply putting what needs to be done “now on priority” in the “to do” list. So, once the “to-do” item is on a list, it’s off my mind—so it might as well never get done!

There is a hack for the to do list too. Among other errands I deliberately put a lot of easy stuff like- having a cup of coffee, getting a foot massage, eating, going to the park to soak the sun(for winters only), eating while soaking, watch my favourite flick on TV, eating while watching etc on my “to do” list. Then when half of my to do list is checked right, I feel satisfied and stop for the day. Needless to say that the checked half of list only includes all what has been categorised as ‘easy stuff ’ above.

Also, sometimes when I do things that are not there in my things to do list, I quickly add them to my list and immediately scratch them out...thereby adding a sense of accomplishment and more meaning to my To Do List.

On a more serious note, I would say that we need to stop fretting over the unchecked issues on our to do list or better still begin by having not more than five items on the list, or should I say that sometimes our stopdoing list needs to be bigger than our to-do list ;)
