#LOOKBEYOND MARKS
No words of wisdom have really managed to change the outlook of parents and students, when it comes to this. But, if they really want to see real life examples of why marks aren’t everything, I have something for them. All parent’s should watch the film, Where to Invade Next by filmmaker Michael Moore. It’s a documentary that amongst many things, explores and draws a parallel between the American education system (which is much like ours) to that of France, Finland and Slovenia. Education via rote learning, which is judged according to grades and scores isn’t the truest form of learning. And, I hope that watching this film would make everyone look #BeyondMarks.
DEALING WITH FAILURE
Failures should never be a setback. I am not one to tell people to keep trying till they succeed. I actually believe that success is about finding the smart way out and getting the most out of whatever you are good at.
HIS INITIAL STRUGGLE
I didn’t really struggle as much, but I think that this very word has become such a source of negativity. I would tell you from personal experience that learning is a never ending process; I keep learning. Life is not about working harder now, it is about working smarter. Many of my friends in school, who left for Kota and other such places to prepare for their IITS and IIMS, or for medical studies, are still not in a really great space, despite the high scores. My marks after 10th, dropped by almost 10% and I scored just around 70% in my 12th boards. Did that really affect me? No, because I followed what I loved and did it with all my heart. I don’t discredit any profession, but in the absence of passion, it isn’t anything.
#SHAREYOUR MARKS
Marks are not a way of making a mark in life. I might sound really mean when I say this, but despite scoring much less than what parents expect these days from their children, I am doing really well. I am easily earning more than many of my classmates, probably even more than the entry point salaries that IIM graduates get. #ShareYourMarks and move on!
