Ever since actor Chunky

Pandey (above) portrayed a negative role in the film Begum Jaan (2017), his interest in depicting greyshaded characters on screen has increased. The actor, best known for his comic roles, says that he is done with comedy and wants to explore the negative roles now.

“My appetite for darker shades has suddenly grown. I want people to be scared of me. They’ve laughed at me too much and now, I want to make them cry,” says Chunky, who has also signed a Telugu film, in which he has a negative role.

The 55-year-old actor is known for his burlesque roles in multiple films and his character Akhri Pasta in the Housefull film franchise became really popular. However, he confesses to have developed the fear of getting typecast. “The fear was introduced after working as Akhri Pasta. I was referred to as a comedian. I love the role, as it remains one of my best performances. Imagine the joy of making 300 people laugh at the same time! It’s a great thing; but as an actor, you want to keep changing and evolving,” he says. Talking about his role Kabir in Srijit Mukherji’s Begum Jaan, Chunky recalls, “Begum Jaan has completely changed my life. Initially, I was confused, but Srijit had complete faith in me. What amused me was that playing a dark character turned out to be effortless, while comedy has always been such a difficult task.”
