- Rishika Agarwal

aq Se Single’ that’s how stand-up comedian writer and overall ‘Sakht Launda’ Zakir Khan calls his life! Though he believes in the institution of marriage and confesses having a few relationships in the past, for now the 29-year-old comedian wants to remain single.

“When a relationship is bound to happen, it does, but sometimes things doesn’t work out. Even Salman Khan is single,” he tells HT City during his recent visit to Lucknow. He has been the co-host at the controversial AIB roast and won a competition organised by Comedy Central.

Zakir’s concept of “his type of girl” is a simple lass without tantrums. “We are three brothers. I have studied in all boys’ school and keenly observed girls. I feel girls throw tantrums all the time, which I can’t handle.”

Many feel that he is objectifying women in his acts, which he denies, “My jokes are all about migration to a new city and inferiority complexes that I have experienced.”

On how he became a standup comedian, Zakir says, “My roommate went for a comedy show and on returning he pushed me to do comedy as I’m good at it. Moreover, I was unemployed”.

The Indore-lad is a college dropout. The comedian says that it is difficult to make people laugh and build a balanced relationship with the audience. “Everything is subjective and sometimes the interests of people collide. Mostly they are frank and funny in front of their friends only,” he says. On his advice to youths he says, “Youngsters are doing great and don’t require my advice.”

He likes poetry apart from music and comedy. Does he rehearse for his acts? “No! I don’t rehearse. It’s all in my mind,” he says. When asked where he sees himself after few years, he quips, “In front of my mirror!”

Zakir was in the city for a live performance organised by Concept Karkhana founded by RJ Vipul at Indra Gandhi Pratishthan. His act left the audience in peals of laughter. The show continued for almost two hours and the 1500-seater hall was packed to the capacity.
