here comes a point in every person’s life that calls for change. Your fitness regimen is no exception. How many times can you bench those same plates and keep running on that treadmill? Aside from the boredom factor, there’s also the drawback of the plateau effect, which makes you lose interest. The new buzz in fitness is battle-ropes workout. It’s a fun and quick new way of burning calories. So just like Bollywood stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, here’s how you can do this: Head to your local hardware store and get yourself about 20-50 feet of manila (hemp) rope. Why manila rope? It’s durable and will stand up to the heavy pounding you put it through. “Battle ropes are great for extension and flexion of shoulder muscles. They help in increasing muscle endurance,” says fitness trainer Tejvir Malik. Battle ropes are a great way to work your core. They’ll help you pack on lean mass and lose weight faster. Recently, many Bollywood faces like Sonakshi Sinha, Kangana Ranaut, and besties Kareena Kapoor Khan and Amrita Arora have been spotted incorporat­ing the battle ropes in their workout regimen. “A mere 10-minute workout on the battle ropes is equivalent to one hour of cardio,” says fitness trainer Manmeet Kaur Manchanda. a) It’s a quick and efficient fitness routine that works on all the muscles. You can expect to burn 300500 calories in a 30-minute session. b) It also increases your metabolism for up to 36 hours after the exercise. c) Doing even a 15-30 second intense battle ropes workout can speed up your weight loss. Half waves: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding the ends of the rope in each hand. Now, start an alternatin­g wave motion. Jumping jacks: Hold the ropes by the end and perform old-school jumping jacks. Claps: Move your arms in and out like you’re clapping your hands together. Continue any of these movements for 15-30 seconds.
