How Kriti Sanon became a UP girl
She has played different characters in her threeyear-long Bollywood career. Now, in Bareilly Ki Barfi, Kriti Sanon will be seen playing a girl from UP (Uttar Pradesh).
“Since Kriti isn’t from that milieu because she hails from Delhi, the body language or accent of a UP girl doesn’t come naturally to her. That’s why she had to do a lot of preparation,” says an insider.
Right before Kriti started shooting for the film, she hit upon an idea. So, even as the entire team was shooting for the film in Lucknow (UP), Kriti went to Lucknow a couple of days earlier and spent time with 10-15 local college girls (inset).
“She spent quite a few hours with them while observing their body language, the way they carried themselves, their accent, etc. She even recorded her conversations with them and kept listening to them for days to pick up nuances of how they spoke,” says an insider.
Now, whenever Kriti is told that she has caught the tone of her character well, she knows that it’s due to all her preparation. When contacted, Kriti says, “Yes, I spent a lot of time with the girls. They were really sweet to take me to their college, share stories about their daily life there, and even about their boyfriends. My conversations with them were of immense help to portray the character I was supposed to. It’s very different from what I have done before and it was a lot of fun to play Bitti.”
