NOT MANY ROLES IN SHOWBIZ FOR PLUS-SIZE WOMEN: METZ

-

American actor Chrissy Metz (right), who has earned an Emmy nomination for playing the character of Kate Pearson in American TV series, This is Us, says Metz’s character is dealing with weight issues, and also sheds light on how she overcomes it.

“Aside from the fact that Dan Fogelman wrote it and it was just such a wonderful pilot when I read it, there also aren’t very many options for plus-size women. And it is sad. And hopefully, you know, this show and this role will kind of put a different spin on it,” Metz said in a statement.

The 36-year-old added: “I know that it takes a minute for art to imitate life. However, I was just grateful for the opportunity. And then, when it was something that was this wonderful I was like, oh man, I have to have it! And John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, who are incredible directors, directed the pilot.

Actor Jessica Chastain (above) has slammed the TV network CBS for its lack of female leads in its autumn lineup. The 40-yearold tweeted: “I’ll just Netflix and chill. Or some HBO greatness. Or anything by Ryan Murphy. There’s so many incredible options that don’t include CBS.”

Her tweet comes in response to a reported comment by CBS senior executive vice-president Thom Sherman. Asked about the network’s continued lack of diversity in its programming, he said, “We had six pilots with female leads and the way things turned out, those pilots were not deemed to be as good as the pilots that were picked up.

Chastain, a two-time Academy Award nominee, has been an advocate for prominent female roles in the film industry. She recently spoke out at the Cannes Film Festival, as a member of the jury, about female representation and encouraging powerful roles.
