The curse of immortality!
It was an evening full of dance, drama and introspection. Suffering from the curse of immortality and eight immortals from the Hindu mythology came on stage to talk about their lives and miseries.
‘Amarbeli’ a play based on the poem of famous writer Umakant Malviya was staged at BM Shah Auditorium in Bhartendu Natya Academy recently under the direction of Raghvendra Pratap Singh.
Anshu Malviya graced the occasion with his presence and was teary eyed on seeing his father’s creation on stage. Also present were the renowned theatre artists Surya Mohan Kulshreshtha and Mridula Bharadwaj.
The play talked about how those who were given immortality must be feeling now when they have had thousands of years to look back at their lives and rethink their decisions, and what are their regrets. The sarcastic remarks made by the play on the present day system and society were highly applauded by the audience. Lighting of the play was very striking and was supervised by Devashish Mishra.
Amarbeli was the narrator of the story and was played by Shivanshi Chaubey. Anuj Nigam was seen on the stage as Raja Bali, Shubham Tewari as Parshuraam, Sachin Jaiswal as Lord Hanuman, Harsh Jaggi as Vibhishan, Vinay Mishra as Ved Vyas, Ritesh Asthana as Kripacharya and both Suraj Singh and Tabish played Ashwatthama. All the actors belong to a local theatre group The Mocking Birds. Art direction of the play was beautifully done by Bhartendu Kashyap who also heads the group.
