Sangita Ghosh, who is known for her stellar performances over the years, be it Pammi of Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chaand or Suri of Parvarrish 2, plays an antagonist for the first time.

The talented actor, who was in the city promoting her new show, says she always wanted to play a negative character in her career. “I have always been keen on doing different roles. This time again I’m trying my hand at a new genre and it’s fun to play an antagonist because this is something I always wanted and waited to do. I’m enjoying every bit of my role and the show has a great storyline too. Also my producer Sanjot Kaur of Rolling Pictures was confident enough that I will be able to do justice to the role.”

On been asked how the TV industry has changed over the years, she says, “Channels rule the roost now. Back in those days, we had great makers like Lekh Tandon, Aruna Irani, BR Chopra and other big names who would concentrate on episodic stories. We knew what our character graphs were. Today, everybody is more interested in creating moments that sometimes don’t even fit in the original narrative.

A lot of people say things have become more professional, but there is a lot of work pressure also. Promotions have become the major part of any new show. It takes so much time and the competition for TV shows is getting tougher. Earlier, neither there were so many channels nor there were so many other mediums like today.”

The actress will be seen adding spice to the character with her hot and spicy Bengali avatar. “Talking about donning a Bengali look, I was so inspired by Bollywood movie Devdas that I asked the makers to give me a similar look like the protagonist in the film,” says Sangita.

Talking about her character Sudha in the serial, she says, “This is indeed a big step for me. This character has faced certain circumstances and events in her life that have forced her to become manipulative. She is not like the typical negative characters with heavy makeup and in your face manners, but still she is bringing right amount of surprises and shocks to the script.”

Revealing about her future plans, the Kehta Hai Dil actor says, “As you all know I’m a Rajasthani Bahu and married to Jaipur based polo player Shailendra Singh Rajput. We both make it a point to constantly stay in touch and share every single detail of our lives, despite the distance. Sometimes he comes down to Mumbai to spend time with me or I fly to Jaipur for a week. And trust me, I love living in Jaipur doing nothing; just staying home and cooking something interesting.

And somewhere down the line, I know I will pack up and restart my career doing something else one day.”
