TIME MADE KAJOL A BETTER ACTOR

The Bollywood star says that there’s a method to her acting but it can’t be taught; it can only be learned by experience

Kajol has been time and again lauded for her nuanced performances and ability to emote on screen. The actor has won many accolades for her craft, over the years. Does she follow any particular method as an actor? “There is a method, but I don’t think that method can be taught,” says Kajol.

The 43-year-old adds that it can only be learnt by experience. “It is something that you kind of learn, at least I learned through trial and error. So everyone has their own method and way of going about it. It is an individual process. Like they say everybody’s spiritual journey isn’t the same, that’s exactly what I feel an actor’s journey is. Every actor’s journey is different.”

Kajol insists that everyone should do one film in their life, to understand acting and how it helps you shed inhibitions. “I remember during my first film Bekhudi (1992), I found it (acting) a very liberating experience, to stand in front of 50-60 people and cry, scream and just let go. certain wall that falls away, there is certain freedom and ease that comes after you’ve finished. You feel almost cathartic. It’s like you are breaking your own preconceived notions about yourself as a person, I am not even talking about as an actor,” she says.

Kajol adds that she loves the fact that she has faced a lot of situations that probably have not ever happened to her. “That’s because I have a great imagination and I have to portray them on screen. So you have to live that particular moment, which you would not have to otherwise,” she says.
