The ninth season of actor Amitabh Bachchan’s TV show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, recently got its first one-crore winner — Anamika Majumdar, a housewife and NGO worker from Jharkhand.

Majumdar wants to use the money wisely, a suggestion given to her by none other than Big B himself. “After winning the show, Mr Bachchan told me that I must use this huge amount wisely and not take any hasty decision. I want to wait for this excitement to subside and then take the right step,” says the social worker, whose charity works to help children in difficult circumstances in Jharkand.

Majumdar, who hails from Jamshedpur says, “I want to spend this money to help people. Although I am tempted to go back home and use it immediately, I want to come up with the best way to utilise such a big amount.”

After she had won `1 crore, the 41-year-old was given the option to play the jackpot question for a chance to win `7 crore, but she decided to not take that risk. Recalling the moment when she was declared a crorepati, Majumdar says, “The moment Bachchan sir said that my answer is right I wanted to cry out of joy, but I didn’t want to cry in front of everyone else... I knew my kajal would get spoiled but I couldn’t contain my tears.”

Did she think she would make it thus far? “After I won `50 lakh, I was taking a lot of time on every answer and I knew I wouldn’t get such a chance again. All my lifelines were over and I didn’t want to lose after reaching that point. I was confused in the final question, but the final decision of 2-3 seconds changed my life,” says Majumdar.
