WORLD ANIMAL DAY TODAY
Between taste buds & conscience
Medical science has unquestionably proved that the anatomical structure of a human being, external as well as internal, is suited to the vegetarian diet that is fruits and vegetables. The question now arises, If humans were not supposed to eat meat, then why they do? People eat meat because they think it is tasty. They, however, forget that the taste is not of the meat itself, but it is the taste of spices, salt and sauces. No human being would ever relish the taste of raw meat.
To justify their logic, Non-vegetarians often quote an ancient proverb, ‘Jeevo jeevasya bhojnam’, and further add that Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose, the great scientist from India, demonstrated experimentally that all plants are living beings, and so no person is purely a vegetarian in the real sense. This reasoning holds no ground as vegetarians do not kill the plants in the process of getting food, while meat is obtained by killing the animals. If a meat eater visits a slaughter house, he might stop eating meat from that very moment.
A carnivorous animal’s anatomy is so structured that it can eat meat in raw form only. And if a deer is burned in a forest fire, no wild animal would eat its meat. Lions, even in a circus or a zoo, have to be fed with raw meat so that they don’t starve to death. But the very thought of eating raw meat would make a human being feel sick. The proof that one’s conscience feels guilty is when we see nonvegetarians not eat it during the holy festival days. So, it is the question of choice to be nonvegetarian at the cost of kindness and conscience, or be a vegetarian and respect the basic human values. Choice is yours.
