‘I AM OPEN TO WORKING ON MORE BIOPICS’
Sushant Singh Rajput says that after doing a biopic on cricketer MS Dhoni, he has been inundated with offers but he is taking his time to choose projects wisely
His last film, Raabta might not have worked at the box-office but Sushant Singh Rajput is already looking ahead. Not one to be bogged down by setbacks, the actor recently returned from Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, where he is shooting for his next with Sara Ali Khan. Before that, he had taken off to USA to train at NASA for another film.
Excerpts from an interview.
So how was the entire experience of going to NASA?
I was like akidina candy store. There are very few people who get to experience the things that I did during my training there. All my life, space, stars and moon were just theories, but finally, I got to experience them firsthand. I did everything twice because I was so excited to be able to live my dream. I also made sure that all my topper friends from college who did their engineering saw all my pictures. They always wanted to go to NASA and none of them could. So I was making them jealous (laughs).
Would you then say that Chanda Mama Door Ke is probably your most important film?
NASA, science and astrophysics always interested me. I recently got a telescope too and I’m extremely excited about that. But even films where I am doing something light and not an intense part are as important and exhilarating for me as other projects. So I can’t really pick favourites as I put in an equal amount of hard work in all my films.
After your biopic on MS Dhoni, are you consciously staying away from doing biopics?
I will be honest. I have been getting offers but I haven’t signed anything until now. I am deliberately not signing any films. There is no hurry and there is no place I want to arrive at, so I am not trying to shy away from repetition. But if there are two biopics back to back which excite me, I will do it. The stories have to be good. I have been getting offers and some of them are good stories but it’s not a deliberate attempt to not do a biopic.
