This young author is going places...
L ucknow girl Mrinalini Mitra’s debut book Belief has been recently nominated for the International Young Authors’ Award to be held in Dubai. Her book has been reviewed by the likes of Arvind Kejriwal, Irrfan Khan, Javed Khan and was on top of the charts of Goodreads for weeks.
The Belief is an intricate family drama that highlights the issues related to weak kinship bonds that break under the impact of modern day living leading to single motherhood, break up of traditionally recognized family structures, and loneliness related to old age.
Niyogi Books Publication have nominated her book for the International Young Authors Awards. The publishers have the option of nominating books they feel fit for certain awards, said Mrinalini who is presently studying at Denison University in United States on full scholarship as a Founders Scholar.
“I feel honoured and grateful for the positive response my very first book has received. Such recognition is very encouraging. I think it is important to acknowledge the challenges young authors face in finding readers,” she said during a chat with HT City.
“Young authors don’t necessarily always write for the young adult genre but often find their work being categorised that way because of stereotype concerning a young person,” she said.
Talking about her book she said, “The book talks about how several social practices affect the life of a child and its surroundings. The story family fiction drama is set in England where weak family bonding is not uncommon.”
Both Amazon and Flipkart have recorded high sales of this book. Mrinalini has been awarded the Davies Peace Prize 2017 by the Davies Peace foundation USA and is the only Indian to have won it this year.
An alumna of City Montessori School Gomti Nagar and GD Goenka School, not only she did exceedingly well in her 12th grade securing 95.5% in her top four subjects. She continues her streak of academic excellence in University by being a part of the exclusive Phi Society, a chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa society that comprises of students of the highest scholastic standing in their first year at college.
Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest national honour society in which only 10% of students from all US colleges affiliated with it are selected to form a new chapter in this Greek Society. Mitra’s achievements are not only centered on her academic prowess, she’s also the recipient of the 10,000$ award from Davis Projects for Peace Foundation, which funds students who want to I feel honoured and grateful for the positive response my very first book has received. Mrinalini worked in India this summer installing individual self-sustaining Solar Energy System in Uttar Pradesh.
In her free time this young author enjoys painting, writing poetry and playing piano as well.
