‘If I get an opportunity to work with senior actors, I’d be stupid not to grab it’

Three years and four films down, Kriti Sanon is already among the top names in Bollywood. But the 27-year-old actor says she’s clueless about what being an A-lister in the industry means. “I feel the happiest about getting opportunities the way I’ve been getting, trying new things and working with people I really want to work with.”

So far, she has only starred opposite the young crop of actors — Tiger Shroff in their debut film Heropanti (2014), Varun Dhawan in Dilwale (2015), Sushant Singh Rajput in Raabta and Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao in Bareilly Ki Barfi this year. In her next, Arjun Patiala, she’s paired opposite Diljit Dosanjh.

What about being the heroine of senior, celebrated men in the industry — like the Khans (Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman), Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan? Is that on her mind? Kriti says, “Who won’t want to work with them? They are still ruling [Bollywood] and doing amazing work. Their choices of films are so different; at the same time, they continue to experiment. So, if I ever get an opportunity, I’d be stupid not to grab it .... It’s something I’d want to do in future, but I am not sad about [not having done it so far]. I feel that I’ve just started my career.”

Having said that, the actor adds that having young costars has equally helped her get better at her craft. “I’ve had a great experience. Each of my co-stars has been so talented. Every actor has a different approach to things,” says Kriti, who feels that while working on any film, one “consciously or unconsciously gains something.”
