WHAT NOT TO DO BEFORE YOU SAY, ‘I DO’

Planning your wedding can be nerve-wracking. So to save your time and mishaps before booking your designer, hair stylist and makeup artiste, here are a few tips that can help you make your journey to your big day a peaceful one.

We spoke to fashion designers Rishita and Mitali Patel, Divya Gupta and Priti Sahni, and makeup and hair stylist Saba Poonawala, who brought to light many factors that could be an eye-opener for brides-to-be this wedding season.

From getting the colour of your outfit right to what type of lehenga would complement you, every detail, if followed up in advance, can save your time and help you concentrate on other aspects of your wedding.

Do not leave anything for the last minute because no one likes a bridezilla. Hence to save you from all that drama, we throw light on common mistakes brides make when they go hunting for their outfits.

“A common mistake brides make during wedding shopping is that they are in awe of their favourite actresses, and like to emulate the same looks. One should not try to achieve the same look by emulating the colours, cuts, styling, etc. that they see on the ramp, campaigns or actresses,” says Divya Gupta, adding, “Please don’t get carried away by what you see, instead establish something that is unique to your own style. Do your trials and fittings before making a final decision. It is also important to be comfortable on your D-day. When we do bridal wear, we ensure soft fabric finishing and already pleated dupattas with attached buttons for the girl’s comfort.”

DRESS TO KILL

The weight and circumference of a bridal lehenga or gown is always a confusing decision to make for most brides.

Bridal lehengas come in different size and shapes but as a bride you should consider two major things while choosing your wedding outfit — the season and body type. Designer duo Mitali and Rishita Patel suggest the following pointers:

As a bride, you should make sure that your bridal lehenga makes you feel nice and comfortable. If you are a summer bride, you should opt for a light can-can lehenga instead of one with extra layers of can-can, which will not only restrict your movement but also make you feel sweaty and hot. While in winter you can opt for heavy can-can lehengas, as it definitely makes the garment look showy.

Girls with an hour glass body shape can go for an A-line lehenga in fluid fabric like georgette or chiffon

Pear body shape women should opt for something plain and flowy without much flare. Stay away from fishtailed ones

Girls who have O shaped body could opt for a sharara cut lehenga

Shocking bright colours don’t blend well with fabrics such as velvet and brocade. Also, heavy fabrics don’t blend well in pastel tones

It is important to plan and schedule your alterations. Since you might lose or gain weight months before the wedding.

DON’T JUST GO BY WHAT’S TRENDING

At times, brides go by what is trending in the wedding circuit and end up disappointed.

“It’s natural for brides to ask for latest fashion trends, styles, makeup, etc. There is nothing wrong in it as long as the bride is happy and comfortable in what she is wearing. Trying out some new silhouettes, fabrics, colours or styles on the D-day surely comes with some risks. It’s always better to try out the samples before experimenting with your bridal lehenga. Once you are sure of a particular colour or style, you can incorporate it in your final outfit,” says Priti Sahni.
