Home plants to beat air pollution
Lot has been conveyed in newspapers, TV Channels and all over about the extremely poor or poisons air quality at many places in country and nearer home at Delhi and Lucknow.
National Green Tribunal (NGT), The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Government has suggested and initiated many steps to improve the situation. We should cooperate with the measures suggested. Further, we should initiate action at our own level by our own selves, to adopt plantation at home which is a simple, delightful and effective measure to control air pollution.
OUTDOOR PLANTS
Most of us live, with a road in front of our home, exposing us to dust, gases and noise. By utilizing nature, we can prevent and reduce pollution by planting relevant plants properly. For example, hedge, followed by Ashoka trees and bougainvillea in between the trees, in front of a home.
This type of plantation at a household level can reduce pollution to a great extent:
Hedge at the outset, coarse dust at lower level.
Ashoka tree intercept finer dust which rises up.
Bougainvillea absorbs SOx and NOx and serves as pollution indicator.
Such plantation helps in reduction of noise level also inside the home.
INDOOR HOME PLANTS
There are many plants which contribute to reduce indoor pollution and health issues and provide home remedies. Names of commonly known and adopted plants like tulsi, aloe vera and others are known at most homes.
Few plants, amongst many, which should be kept inside home for improving air quality and health of family members are given below:
Erica palm: Cleans inside home air quality by absorbing
formaldehyde and carbon monoxide (CO), increasing oxygen. May be kept in living room.
Snake plant (crotone): This converts CO2 in oxygen in night too. May be kept in bedroom.
Money Plant: Removes chemical toxins from air. Can be placed anywhere and all over the home.
These simple initiatives will improve your home environment and health of occupants. Besides, the simple, pleasant and possible step, will cumulatively do wonders for the city as well.
