If something is true for us maybe it’s not so for someone else because it’s all a matter of belief. This was the main element of Saurabh Shukla’s play- Barff that opened the Repertwahr Festival at Sangeet Natak Academy on Monday.
The story revolved around three characters a couple, a doctor and an ailing child spanning a single night. Truth, reality and believe are elements on which the 2 hour long play was based against a grand backdrop of Kashmiri village.
Despite being a thriller, Saurabh Shukla and Sunil Palval created some intriguing laughter moments which left the audience in splits. Sunil played a driver while Sadiya Siddiqui portrayed his wife. The show witnessed two packed show and standing ovation from the audience.
Earlier in the day, the actors of the paly along with duo Namit Das- Anurag Shanker were in conversation with writer Yatindra Mishra. Namit — who is best known for his acting in films like Wake Up Sid, TV shows and plays — talked about his style of singing and composing. “Lot of people ask me that why don’t we sing in Bollywood style and my response is that maybe I’m being obstinate but we will make our compositions the way we want . Though I agree that it is tough to make audience used to new type of music and arrangement,” said the vocalist.
His musical partner and arranger Anurag Shanker said, “People are still opening up to something new. As a producer, guitarist and musician we love to mix live electronic and traditional Indian folk in mystical Sufism.” The duo weaved magic on stage and enthralled the audience with their rocking music and vocals.
The first time launch of comedy segment at the sevenday fest took off with stand-up artiste Kunal Kamra who loves to call himself politically incorrect and an advertising slave. Like always, Kunal was at his witty best and found an instant connect with the Lucknow’s youth present at SNA during his act. His oneliners and spontaneous statements went down well with the audience.
