Its time to show your creativity with colours

City to witness Colourotho­n on January 28

Lucknow, get ready to paint your imaginatio­n alongside worldrenow­ned painters as the Shalimar Colorothon that provides a platform to individual­s to show their creativity with colours will hold their next season in the state capital.

The daylong event will be held at Lohia Park on January 28. This is the 9th season of the Colorothon and the first one in UP. The earlier seasons were held in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Padma Bhushan awardee sculptor Ram Sutar, his painter-sculptor son Anil Sutar, Guinness record holder artiste Wajid Khan, movie poster legend Laxman Kumar, artistes Swapan Bhandari and Vilas Kulkarni will be part of the event.

Hindustan Times is the media partner of the event that has been divided into two arenas.

“The UP Tourism Art Tour at amphitheat­re will display 1,000 paintings of three different sizes A3, 3x2 canvas, 6.5x9 ft canvas portraits. Seven new portraits will be made by profession­al artistes along with people of Lucknow. The portraits to be made on the spot includes that of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Nobel laureate Rabindrana­th Tagore, actors Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan and chairperso­n and founder of Reliance Foundation Nita Ambani,” says Colorothon founder Ahmed Shariff.

At the art arena, 150 profession­al artistes will paint for a cause. These paintings will later be auctioned or sold and the proceed will go for different causes — orphanages, old age homes and for the visually impaired.

Besides, three walls of 100x5 ft each will provide canvas to the participan­ts to paint their heart out. “These walls will be alongside pathway of the Lohia Park walking tracks. That’s not all. People will be provided canvas, boards, pencils where they can make whatever they want to and paint it with any medium,” adds Shariff.

Bangalore-based band Drum Circle will enthrall the audience with their music at the amphitheat­re. Besides, Fateh Ali Khan of Gwalior gharana will present Sufi music. Khan is the 16th generation lineage of Emperor Akbar’s navratna and singer Tansen.

The organizers have also partnered with Lucknow Developmen­t Authority (LDA) to beautify the 1-km stretch of Shaheed Path at the Vibhuti Khand exit to Indira Gandhi Pratisthan. “This will begin from January 24 and completed in the first week of February by Delhi Street Artists (DSA),” he says.

Tare Zameen Ke fame Darsheel Safari has been the face of Colourthon in the first three seasons. The previous season saw a floating gathering of 25,000 people.
